The village, which name appeared in the written sources in 1400 as Jeswiz, as Jaźwiska in 1920. Originally, it belonged to the Teutonic Knights, and from the first half of the XV century it has constituted the Polish knight property. It has mainly focused small farmers and cottagers.
West of the village, on the road to the village of Rzym, there is a free-standing hill that can be walked around. It is called the “Gold Mountain” (Pol. “Złota góra”). At its foot originates the stream of “Virgin hole” (Pol. „Dziewcza dziura”). Its name most probably refers to the pagan tradition of this place, where the rituals were celebrated and the offerings were placed.
